Technology for manufacturing of thermomechanically hardened section rolled metal

List of operations for the technology introduction:

  • Selection and placement of equipment for thermal treatment of metal in present conditions;
  • Technologies for obtaining of products conforming to all of the existing strength grades: Ат400 – Ат1200 according to СТО АСЧМ7-93; ГОСТ 10884-94  94 and international standards ASTM A615, ENV 10080, DIN488, BS 4449, SFS 1215 and others;
  • Training, maintenance and control over the compliance with the technology for manufacturing of thermomechanically hardened section rolled metal: armature and rolled wire (№6-№40).

The process of thermomechanical hardening of armature is implemented on a special aggregate (thermostrengthening line) after the armature leaves a rolling mill. An upper quenching layer is formed after the sharp cooling of a bar by water, while a kernel preserves austenite structure. Then during a short period of time self-regulation of the temperature of the upper layer and the kernel centre takes place, which is caused by the temperature gradient between both parts. Thus, martensite layer is exposed to self-regulation.
Final forming of the bar structure is implemented in a cooler.


Necessary level of mechanical properties of steel is attained due to:

  • correcting of the thermostrengthening line assemblage scheme;
  • water consumption and pressure on the thermostrengthening line;
  • metal self-tempering temperature;
  • rolling speed on a mill.



Advantages of given technology:

  • manufacturing of products which comply with all of the existing strength grades: Ат400 – Ат1200 according to СТО АСЧМ7-93; ГОСТ 10884-94 and international standards ASTM A615, ENV 10080, DIN488, BS 4449, SFS 1215 and others.;
  • reduction of costs for expensive alloying supplements in steel-smelting production;
  • production of armature which blends together good capacity for welding with strengthening and plastic properties.
